The men's senior national team is the flagship of the Nigeria Basketball Federation. The NBBF is constantly working to reinvigorate the men's program. 2012 saw the men's team qualify for their first-ever Olympic Games in London. Not only did they make their first appearance, but in that first appearance, they claimed victory. 2013 starts off with massive planning to build on the success of 2012. D'Tigeresses are the queens of Nigeria basketball. 2013 will see the ladies work to have a strong showing at this year's Afrobasket to be held in Maputo, Mozambique September 21-30. D'Tigeresses are eager to improve upon their 4th place finish at the 2011 FIBA Africa Championship. Without doubt, 2013 will see them regain top form and bring home a medal.
The men's junior basketball programs will look to build momentum in 2013 heading toward their respective FIBA Africa Championships.

Posted: 26 Jan 2013 To ensure that Nigeria’s senior basketball team, D’ Tigers qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil after making their debut at the London Olympics Games, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) said it has began preparation for the quadrennial events. NBBF president, Tijani Umar disclosed while reviewing last year activities of the federation during their 2013 AGM. He said a four year road map programme has been worked out to steer the team preparation. “In the same manner we prepared and implemented a road map for our Olympics qualification in 2012, work has reached an advanced stage on our four year strategic plan (2013-2016) which we will deploy shortly,” he said. Speaking on Nigeria's experience at London 2012 after France beat Nigeria 79-73 in the men's basketball preliminary round Group A game at the Basketball Arena on Monday, Koko Archibong said: "I wish we could have got further but it's been a great experience. We wanted to take basketball in Africa another step further." "We came as a Cinderella team and wanted to show we had a great team. The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) is the basketball governing body in Nigeria. The body is elected for a four (4) year term that usually ends after the Olympic year. The present body of twelve (12) was elected in June, 2009 with members representing the geo-political zones of the country, with a few of them appointed to represent special interests, e.g. women in sports, armed forces and paramilitary services.
The NBBF has been an affiliate of the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) since 1963.
